Semi-conductive nylon tape and electric field concentration
One of the main reasons for using semi-conductive nylon tape in power cable production is to reduce electric field concentration. Sharp points or protrusions on the outer surface of the conductor can cause the electric field to concentrate, leading to space charge injection into the insulation. This, in turn, can cause the insulation to age and reduce the life of the cable. Semi-conductive nylon tape helps to prevent this by providing a semi-conductive shielding layer between the conductive core and the insulating layer.
